ROP Distinguished Student Award Winners

The ROP Distinguished Student Awards Ceremony was held May 13, 2009 at the Dana Point Marine Institute.  ROP teachers nominated their outstanding students in five career major areas. Capistrano Valley was honored to have students recognized in more than one area.  The Business and Marketing Career Major Award winner was Alexa Richman.  We also had two ROP County Award Winners who will be competing at the County level held at the Orange County Department of Education.  The two county winners were Kaitlynne Ireland, High School Student of the Year and Joel Flores, Bridgestone/Firestone Automotive Award winner.  In addition a scholarship for FIDM "Three Days of Fashion" was awarded to Katie Donnelly. The Capistrano-Laguna Beach ROP has over 4,000 students attending ROP classes.  This competition had 49 finalists who participated in selection interviews.  Eighteen high school scholarships were awarded.  These students should be very proud of their accomplishments.  Congratulations!

College Credit for ROP!

Students who take an ROP course and receive a certificate of completion may be eligible to receive college credit.  The ROP has articulation agreements with Saddleback College in Auto Mechanics, Auto Engine, Small Business Management, IT Essentials, Careers in Fashion, Interior Design, Floral Design, Digitial Media1B, Digital Video and Childcare.  Students enrolling at Saddleback should present the certificate of completion from their ROP class to their college counselor to obtain credit.  If they wish to continue in this field of study they will skip the class that has been identified at Saddleback as a duplication of competencies.  They will move to the next level continuing with an advanced class.  See Mrs. Deckert in the Career Center if you have questions about articulation.

Work Permits

All students are reminded that you must have a 2.0 -C grade point average to be issued a work permit.  Applications for a work permit may be picked up in the Career Center.  An employer must hire you and sign the work permit application before you may obtain a work permit.  Work permits are processed in the Career Center.  All information including your social security number and parent and employer signatures must be filled out.  Please allow one day for processing.

A reminder that work permits expire each September and you must apply for a renewal.  Employers face stiff fines if you are working with an expired work permit.

Work Permits will not be issued during the Thanksgiving  recess.  Get your work permits before break.
