AVID supports students to apply for scholarships and grants during all grades, specialized college tours, as well as 4 year colleges or universities directly from high school. AVID is a four-year elective class for students with academic potential and upon entering AVID after acceptance, students enroll in the “a-g” sequence, college preparatory classes that fulfill the requirements for entry into the University of California, California State University systems and private colleges. Tutors from area colleges and universities as well as peer tutors, work with the high school students, assisting them in all academic areas to make progress commensurate with college expectations. Seminars are also offered in note-taking, study skills, test taking, time management, college entrance exam preparation, effective textbook reading, and library research skills. Students receive extensive help in preparing college applications and financial aid forms. Student progress is monitored via regular teacher and parent contact.
